302 3xx Redirection RFC 3261

SIP 302 Moved Temporarily

The caller should retry at the address in the Contact header. Widely used for call forwarding and least-cost routing redirects.

Common causes

  • Call forward on the destination, or a redirect server used for routing or number portability.

How to fix it

  1. If calls fail after a 302, your PBX may not be following redirects. Enable redirect handling (in Asterisk, the forwarding options), or have the far end proxy the call instead.
Seeing 302 on calls through a router or firewall? Check that SIP ALG is disabled. It causes a surprising number of SIP errors. Read why.

About 3xx responses
